**Everton Women have ended Chelsea’s mammoth unbeaten WSL record.**
Brian Sorensen’s side were previously teetering just three points above the relegation spot after picking up five points from their opening nine games.
But the Blues inflicted a maiden defeat on Sonia Bompastor as well as the defending champions’ first in the league since May 2024 on Sunday.
Chelsea had held a 34-game streak in the women’s top flight before Honoka Hayashi scored the only goal of the game by meeting a Toni Payne cross.
The result moved Everton above Leicester City and marked their first dometic win since a Merseyside derby rout over Liverpool on the opening weekend.
“We planned two, three different presses against them,” Sorensen told BBC Sport.
“They normally change the set-up. But today they kept doing the same, of course, a lot of rotations in the team.
“We were good a communicating and dealing with that.
“Of course they had a lot of the ball, but only one big chance. I thought we were in control defensively, we wanted to do a bit more offensively.
“But it’s hard when they are chasing and going at you with such a strong team.
“We have been talking about tightening up the defence because we are actually scoring goals now.
“They got the message and did it to perfection.”
