A look at the latest injury news surrounding Chelsea and Atalanta as they prepare to face off in the Champions League in Bergamo.
Attention now turns back to Europe as the busy winter schedule continues, and both sides are currently on course to qualify for the next round without the need for a playoff, with both teams on 10 points, but each of them have a close lead over the playoff sides, so there is still work to do.
Here we round up the latest injury news surrounding both sides. We do not count the ineligible players in the final count.
Kamaldeen Sulemana - Out
Sulemana is out is out until later in the month with muscular issues.
Mitchell Baker - Out (Ineligible)
Baker is out with a serious knee injury he picked up in the summer. He is not in the Champions League squad.
Liam Delap - Out
Delap picked up a fresh injury against Bournemouth. Maresca said afterwards: “Unfortunately he has already been out for two months and he has to be out again. We don't know for how long, but it looks quite bad, his shoulder. He has been unlucky. We are also a bit unlucky because we need that kind of a No.9.”
Romeo Lavia - Out
Lavia is not expected back from his hamstring issue until early January.
Levi Colwill - Out (Ineligible)
Colwill is out for the season with a serious knee injury. It was confirmed back in August: “Levi has today undergone successful surgery [for] an ACL injury. Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the medical department at Cobham during his rehab phase.”
Dario Essugo - Out (Ineligible)
Essugo is likely to return in January. Maresca has said: “Dario, he was okay, started some sessions with us, but he needs to slow down a little bit and will be out, but we hope nothing important. We hope he will be fine.”
Mykhailo Mudryk - Out (Suspended - Ineligible)
Mudryk is suspended. A club statement in the summer read: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA's Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.” Mudryk is not included in the final count due to the nature of his absence.
