A tactical genius: Man Utd to step up move to hire 'world-class' manager, he's 'better' than…

Manchester United are considering Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as a potential replacement for Ruben Amorim amid their difficult start to the season.

The Old Trafford side are believed to be keeping close tabs on the Austrian tactician, whose contract with Palace expires at the end of the campaign.

While Glasner is also appreciated by reigning Premier League champions Liverpool, Man United are claimed to be admirers of the 51-year-old Austrian as well.

According to reports, both clubs could now step up efforts to land Glasner considering his Selhurst Park deal runs out in just over six months.

Glasner Eyed by Man United

Glasner, who took over at Palace in February 2024 replacing Roy Hodgson, has achieved unprecedented success at the club since, leading the Selhurst Park side to their first-ever major trophy last season.

The Eagles lifted the FA Cup following a 1-0 win over Manchester City, while they finished 12th in the Premier League after a six-game unbeaten run at the end of the campaign.

In August, Palace also secured the Community Shield after a victory on penalties against Liverpool, their second major trophy under Glasner in just three months.

Palace have also been flying in the Premier League this term, sitting fourth after 15 games, trailing leaders Arsenal by seven points following their 2-1 win over Fulham on Sunday.

What makes the results even more impressive is that Glasner, who has been praised as 'better than Mikel Arteta', has managed to achieve all this by playing a 3-4-2-1 system that has struggled to yield results for Amorim in his 13-month spell at United.

The 'world-class' Austrian tactician’s well-drilled pressing and flexible defensive structure give Palace control in key moments, while he is also not afraid to adapt his shape in possession, which allows his side to progress the ball quickly and maximise the strengths of his attacking players.

Man Utd Inconsistent Under Amorim

Although results have been more positive this term, United have largely struggled to find consistency under Amorim in his second season at Old Trafford.

After winning three Premier League games in a row in October, the Red Devils have secured just one win in their last five fixtures, a 2-1 over Glasner’s Palace last week.

United are 12th in the table heading into their Monday clash against Wolves, who remain bottom of the standings with just two points from their first 14 games.
