Cumbrian Premier League star announces engagement

The Everton and England defender, from Wigton, has revealed he plans to tie the knot with partner Isla Armstrong.

The couple confirmed the news via social media on Sunday.

Jarrad, 23, and long-term partner Isla, 22, posted a number of photos from their current break in Dubai, including images of Isla's engagement ring.

The former Carlisle United player, 23, has been in the United Arab Emirates with his new fiancee during his recovery from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of action so far this season.

Jarrad and Isla's engagement news on Instagram was met with a number of messages of support.

Some came from fellow Cumbrians and former Carlisle United players and staff, with the likes of Paul Huntington, Jamie Devitt, James Trafford, Neil Dalton and Owen Moxon offering their congratulations, along with several of his current club and international colleagues.

Jarrad, the son of Wigton-based Paul and Donna, came through the youth team ranks at Carlisle United after joining the Blues' academy [from Abbeytown Juniors](https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/25667066.jarrad-branthwaite-digging-deep-help-boyhood-club/?ref=ed_direct), and went on to break into the United first team at 17.

He became Carlisle's youngest ever goalscorer before joining Everton in January 2020, since when he has become one of the most highly-rated young English defenders in the top-flight.

Branthwaite has one full England cap to his name, having also captained the Under-21s, and has often been linked with big-money moves to top clubs both in England and overseas. He is contracted to Everton until the summer of 2030.
