I got up Friday morning in New York, wrote a column about Ole Miss basketball, did a radio hit with my friend Mark Heim in Mobile and then ventured out on a cold day.
I walked from my hotel in Times Square to the 9-11 Memorial and Museum. It was a four-mile hike or so. I needed the exercise. I was dressed in a sweater and a wool coat. I had gloves and a cap, so I was fine. The walking was good for my mind.
I told myself I'd catch an Uber or taxi back. I walked instead. The memorial was incredibly well done, but so somber. I needed time to process it, to think about it, to move it to another corner of my brain.
