Premiere in Madrid

**She-Wolves away at Real Madrid on UWCL Matchday 5**

VfL Wolfsburg Women have two more games to play in the league phase of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, starting with their last away assignment of the year in the competition at Real Madrid’s Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Tuesday 9 December (kick-off 21:00 CET). The fixture marks the very first time the teams will meet on the European stage.

Decisive games

--------------

VfL are in third place in the league phase table on nine points from four matches, with the 5-2 home win over Manchester United on Matchday 4 meaning they have already qualified for the play-offs at the very least. The Green-and-Whites still have two fixtures left to put themselves in an even better position for the knockout rounds.

Real Madrid are slightly further back in seventh place and on seven points. The Spanish outfit’s 2-1 defeat against Arsenal WFC in their most recent outing is their only loss so far in the UWCL this season. As such, all options are likewise still open for the team from the Spanish capital.

**Ahead of the match in Madrid, VfL head coach Stephan Lerch spoke about…**

**…team news:** “Everyone is fit and available, we don’t have any absentees to report. It’s a nice feeling to go into the game with a full squad.”

**…Real Madrid:** “As usual, we’ve prepared ourselves and analysed Real Madrid’s games in detail. They’re a very good team, and up front in particular they have players with a lot of quality that can turn a game. But we want to concentrate on what we’re doing, defend in a focused manner and execute our own game plan out on the pitch.”

**…the latest standings:** “We play to win. Having said that, we haven’t over-analysed the situation – we’ve worked hard for everything to get to where we are now. The important thing is to take it each game as it comes and focus on the things we can influence. We want to bring all three points home from Madrid and move forward one step at a time. We want to use this positive pressure we have from already qualifying for the play-offs and turn into motivation of our own. Then we’ll see where it takes us.”
