Oklahoma State head football coach Eric Morris on bringing Bedlam game back: 'I welcome it with …

It didn't take long for new Oklahoma State football coach Eric Morris to get the crowd fired up in his first official day in Stillwater.

Morris was introduced at Oklahoma State Monday afternoon and to close out his opening remarks, he put his flag into what side of a hot topic debate in the state would be — the topic of Bedlam football.

"I'd love to get on the phone with anybody that we know that can help us bring that game back," Morris said Monday. "And if they're asking if Coach Morris welcomes that game, I welcome it with open arms."

Bedlam, the historic rivalry game played between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, has taken a two-year hiatus after the Sooners left for the SEC. The last time the two teams met on the football field was a 27-24 Cowboy victory in 2023 and they played every year for 112-straight seasons.

With both team's nonconference schedules booked for the next couple years, there's no obvious opening for the rivalry to be renewed. Both the Big 12 and SEC will play nine-game conference schedules beginning in 2026, making room for a nonconference tilt even less likely.

Oklahoma State athletic director Chad Weiberg spoke about the scheduling difficulties.

"My answer has not changed on that," Weiberg said Monday. "We're not against playing that game. It just has to work out on the schedule. They've got new scheduling parameters now, so we'll just continue to have to work through when the timing is right."

The Sooners own the longtime rivalry, with a 91-20-7 record, but the Cowboys have won two of the last three meetings.

The two schools have continued to play in most other sports since Oklahoma joined the SEC. This Saturday, both Oklahoma State basketball teams will play their in-state rivals in the Paycom Center as part of a doubleheader in Oklahoma City.
