Former Chelsea player Gianfranco Zola says he is ‘really impressed’ with current head coach Enzo Maresca at the club.
The Blues legend has been speaking to The Times this week and says that Maresca is ‘a serious coach’ and has created a very clear and distinct identity at his former club.
EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea have THREE Premier League centre midfielders on the radar – two they would LOVE to sign!
Not every Chelsea fan will agree with Zola here, but I’d say that the majority probably now would agree as Maresca has managed to win most of them over.
Chelsea and Maresca are actually off the back of a poor couple of results and need to get back to winning ways again, hopefully starting tonight in the Champions League against Atalanta. But their was a dull 0-0 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday and a 3-1 defeat to Leeds United last week that will still be fresh in their minds right now.
But before that of course, they had a great win against Barcelona, and then a decent performance against Arsenal even if they didn’t manage to win that one.

Speaking to The Times, Zola said:
“I’ve been really impressed with Maresca, and not just because he’s already won titles. That element is really important but what I really like is the team’s sense of identity.
“Despite being young, despite having such a big squad with so many great players to try to get the best from, he has already given a really clear, rich and distinct identity. That reflects well on Maresca, and because he’s still so young, he still has so much scope to progress even further as a coach.”
Long way to go
Maresca has generally done well as Blues boss lately, but there is a long way for him and this team to go yet before they can really start being in the mode of success.
