Gakpo, Chiesa, Endo: Full Liverpool injury list and potential returns

Leeds 3-3 Liverpool: Match Review and Mo Salah bombshell

Liverpool injury news of Federico Chiesa, Cody Gakpo, Wataru Endo and Jeremie Frimpong.

Liverpool head into their Champions League clash against Inter Milan with options depleted.

Yet it leaves Slot well short of options to face Inter, who were Champions League runners-up last season. Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo have not been able to travel, while Slot has had to include three goalkeepers and three teenagers in his set-up.

It’s not ideal for Liverpool, who are still to remedy their stuttering form and face Brighton at Anfield on Saturday before a trip to Tottenham Hotspur the following weekend.

With everything in mind, here’s a look at the Liverpool injury list and when players could be back fit.

Federico Chiesa - ill

The forward has not travelled to Milan. Liverpool will be hoping that the Italy international can recover quickly and that he will be available at the weekend.

Potential return game: Brighton (H), Saturday 13 December.

Cody Gakpo - unspecified

The forward picked up an issue at Leeds United. Gakpo featured for 84 minutes of the encounter and was a surprise omission from Slot’s squad to face Inter. The Liverpool boss has admitted that his Dutch compatriot will be sidelined for a ‘few weeks’.

Potential return game: Wolves (H), Saturday 27 December.

Jeremie Frimpong - hamstring

The summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen has had a frustrating start to his Liverpool career. Frimpong suffered a recurrence of an injury in October. He has been absent for six weeks and is still to return to training. Liverpool were hopeful that Frimpong would be back in sessions this week and he will need time to build up fitness.

Potential return game: Tottenham (A), Saturday 20 December.

Wataru Endo - unspecified

The midfielder was another surprise absence from Liverpool’s travelling squad to face Inter, having also missed training. Endo came off the bench in the closing stages against Leeds so many have sustained an issue. He picked up a problem in a 2-1 loss at Chelsea in October and and missed Japan duty during that month’s international break.

Potential return game: N/A

Jayden Danns - hamstring

The striker would undoubtedly have been on the bench against Milan if he were fit given the absences Liverpool have. But the young striker is still recovering from his issue and his been plagued by fitness problems over the past 18 months. Reports suggest that Danns could be back training in the new year.

Potential return: January

Giovanni Leoni - ACL

The defender will not play again this campaign after suffering a cruel injury on his debut in September. Leoni was forced to undergo surgery.

Potential return: Next season

Stefan Bajcetic - hamstring

The midfielder is still to make an appearance this season after having hamstring surgery in the summer. He picked up his injury while on loan at Spanish side Las Palmas. Given his lay-off, Bajcetic will need significant training before he’s considered for duty.

Potential return: N/A.
