Giannis Antetokounmpo remains at the center of nonstop trade chatter, even as he keeps saying his focus is on elevating his play for the Milwaukee Bucks. During a recent NBA on Prime broadcast, insider Chris Haynes offered an updated look at where things stand for the Bucks star amid the ongoing rumors.
“I did reach out to Giannis, and he spoke to me about just being where his feet are planted. He said that is where his focus is. He told me something about five years ago, and he said, ‘Chris, remember what I told you five years ago?’ I remembered, but I said, ‘No, tell me.’” Haynes remarked.
“He said, ‘There are people who see a door, and they want to hurry up and escape through that door.’ He said, ‘But I see a wall, and I want to run through the wall and make things work.’ He said, ‘So that’s my focus right now. I want to run through a wall, make things work, get healthy and try to be there for my team.’”

Antetokounmpo is stuck on the sidelines for now. After straining his right calf last week, the two-time MVP will remain out for roughly two to four weeks as he works through the recovery process, according to head coach Doc Rivers.
Before he went down, Antetokounmpo had been operating at his usual MVP pace, putting up 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists per game while hitting a career-best 63.9 percent from the floor and 43.5 percent from three. Even with those numbers, Milwaukee sat at 9-13 and held the eleventh spot in the Eastern Conference at the time of his injury.

“And he said he doesn’t know what’s going on behind the scenes with the front office, or what they’re looking at doing as far as his future goes. He said his focus is getting healthy and being there for his team and not running from situations,” the NBA insider continued.
The Bucks’ ongoing issues, combined with the ups and downs of recent seasons, will only add more fuel to the long-running speculation surrounding Antetokounmpo’s future.
