Carl Starfelt captains Celta de Vigo to a famous win over Real Madrid

Starfelt has piled on the misery and pressure on Xabi Alonso over the weekend when his Celta de Vigo side beat nine-man Real Madrid 2-0 at the Bernabeu.

Despite Madrid possessing attacking threats like Kylian Mbappe, Vinícius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and Arda Guler.

Starfelt was able to marshal his defence, not just towards three points, but a clean sheet, as there are now calls for Alonso to be sacked ahead of Madrid’s Champions League showdown against Manchester City.

Starfelt’s Celtic career in numbers

It’s interesting that Starfelt is playing at the heart of the defence in La Liga, on a stage like the Bernabeu, and producing such performances.

Celtic could do with a player of his services right now, especially with Wilfried Nancy coming in with his new system.

But the Sweden international has already written his name into the legendary books in Glasgow, and is regarded as one of Celtic’s most underrated players of recent times.
