Alejandro Garnacho pinpoints what has really puzzled him about Chelsea since he joined

Alejandro Garnacho has not been at Chelsea for long, but there have already been quite a few highs and lows for the winger.

For example, Garnacho and Chelsea were recently beaten 3-1 away at Leeds United. However, before that loss, they managed to defeat Barcelona 3-0.

The Blues also dropped more points last weekend after drawing 0-0 with Bournemouth. Garnacho had a great chance to score that day but could not convert.

Following that mixed run of results, the 21-year-old has had some very interesting things to say.

Alejandro Garnacho doesn’t know why Chelsea are so inconsistent

Garnacho has admitted that Chelsea are an inconsistent team but is not quite sure why.

Speaking about the inconsistency of Enzo Maresca’s side, the Argentina international told TNT Sports:”I think it [inconsistency] is one of the problems. We saw two weeks ago we played Barcelona and Arsenal and we showed the people that we can fight for everything. Then we lost games against the small teams, so we have to be more consistent to be the team that can win this competition for example.

“I don’t know, [why there is inconsistency] we need to be more consistent, but we just train every day, not just focus on the big games. Think about the small games, for example, we don’t have to be focused at the same level, so maybe it is just this, because the quality of the players and of the team is there.”

Individually, Garnacho would also have to admit that he is a player who can blow hot and cold. Since arriving in west London, there have been some good moments, but Maresca wants to see more from Garnacho and made that clear ahead of Tuesday night’s game against Atalanta.

In total, Garnacho has scored two goals and provided two assists for Chelsea this season.

Chelsea’s record against teams outside the big six this season

Chelsea have beaten Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the current campaign, while they got a point against Arsenal despite going down to 10 men.

And again, in the Champions League, they were able to see off one of the best teams in the world in Barcelona. It is against weaker teams where the Blues have struggled, as Garnacho mentioned.

Three of their four losses in the Premier League have come against Leeds, Sunderland and Brighton & Hove Albion. They have also drawn with Crystal Palace, Brentford and most recently Bournemouth.

If Chelsea are going to win the title again, they have to improve in that department. After those results, a title charge this season now seems unlikely. It is not impossible, but they will probably have to settle for a top-four finish again.
