'I don't care if it's Sheffield United or Real Madrid' - Clement on Blades clash

The Blades have picked up form after a disastrous start to the season, Chris Wilder's return as manager propelling them out of relegation trouble thanks to wins over Stoke, Leicester and Portsmouth.

But the Canaries boss will make no extra concessions as a result, asserting that he'll stick to his usual plan in his attempts to emulate United's climb up the Championship table.

"There's one pressure here and that's winning," he told the Pink Un. "If it's against Sheffield United or Watford or Real Madrid, I don't care. For me it's the same.

"The preparation is the same also, how you prepare teams. Of course you show other things from Real Madrid and from Sheffield United, but it's the same preparation. It's about winning games and it's about growing as a team.

"For that it's a pity that you lose players along the way, like Harry (Darling) now with the suspension, because clearly something was building there already in connection with players. But it's a big opportunity for somebody else to come into the equation and to show themselves."

Although Darling's defensive nous will be missed on the pitch after he picked up a fifth booking of the season against Watford, his presence will be felt given he asked to travel with the team to Sheffield. Clement made a point of highlighting this even after his pre-match press conference ended, praising his charge and the atmosphere in the City dressing room.

"Good news on the engagement is that Harry asked to come with the team to the game," he said. "He didn't have to, but he asked to come with the team to the hotel and the game tomorrow to be part of the group. Those are really positive signs for me.

"It's something that I also would have done myself, but it's good that we have this type of character in the dressing room. You can use that."

The former Monaco and Rangers chief expects a tough test in S2, this trip's opponents much more physical than those at Vicarage Road.

"It's a very aggressive team," he continued. "They play with aggressive pressing, very direct football. Watford was more a team that we knew would like possession, would like to get (Imran) Louza on the ball to give the decisive balls.

"This is much more direct football, getting balls into channels, fighting for second balls, getting balls in the box, fights, duels there. We need to be ready enough for that and to play our own football also.

"If you only stop the others and you don't do anything yourselves, you're going to lose games. As you've seen until now, we are busy with what the qualities of the opponents are and how you can stop them, but when you have the ball, you need to create. We need to find spaces and get the right people in the right places also.

"We need good combination play or more direct play in moments. That's a good thing; I think we have several players who can play different systems, and I like this to surprise opponents also."

With transfer business expected when the winter window opens in January, the mission to steer Norwich away from the bottom three could gain added significance in a busy festive period for Clement. But he believes that all games are important, so won't gain any more focus from the impression he needs to make on potential recruits.

"It's important all the time," he said. "Teams or managers who think that one game is not important are in the wrong job. From the first game until the last game, it will be important. All of them are important to get the maximum out of the squad and maximum results for the club.

"So there is no difference between now and January, February, March, April, May. Every game is important and it's the challenge to get the best out of the games in the situation that we are in, where we don't have all the tools that we normally have.

"It's also that players grow, that they become better and learn things. I'm positive about these last weeks, if I see how Pelle Mattsson has grown into the games. Like with Oscar (Schwartau) also, how he's grown into games."
