Mohamed Salah is the biggest story for Liverpool right now, with his public complaints overshadowing everything else at the club.
Indeed, it’s perhaps helped ease some pressure on manager Arne Slot. Rather than the Liverpool focus being on the Dutchman and a shocking start to the season, it’s instead turned to dynamics of player power.
Liverpool face Inter Milan tonight, and Slot is likely more secure than at full time of the 3-3 draw with Leeds United.
The manager is also getting backing from the Netherlands, which is to be expected. There’s a belief Slot has dressing room backing at Liverpool, although an acceptance remains that he simply has to improve results.
Mohamed Salah has now been slammed by Marco van Basten and Theo Janssen. The former is a football legend and the pair are pundits in the country’s media.
Quoted by Voetbal4U, Janssen said: “He’s bringing everything into it, but it’s very simple. What has he shown this season? He extended his contract and the club paid him a huge salary. He’s simply having a poor season, and then the manager has to make a decision. I think Slot waited a long time to take him off because he has a fantastic track record.
“This interview is terrible. I’m bigger than the club, and it’s all about me, and the club doesn’t want me.”
Van Basten added Salah “has the brains of a beetle”, before saying: “He’s done very well, but in recent months he’s simply been poor.”
Another kick for the Egyptian, who may be totting up the numerous digs he’s receiving.
