One of Chelsea’s future players has suffered a nasty injury that will cost him a chunk of the season.

A future Chelsea star has suffered a significant injury in his last season with his current club. The Blues have placed plenty of emphasis on signing future talent over recent years, snapping up some of the best young talent from around the world, with particular emphasis on South America.

One of the talents Chelsea have already agreed to procure is Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda, who has been impressing in Portugal having broken into the first team last year.

Quenda has already racked up 47 league appearances for the Sporting senior side, and he is also paying ahead of his age at international level, making 12 appearances for the Portugal under-21s.

Chelsea paid as much as £44million to sign Quenda, agreeing a double deal that also saw Dario Essugo arrive at Stamford Bridge last summer. Essugo is hoped to be Moises Caicedo’s understudy, but injuries have hampered his progress early in his Chelsea career.

As for Quenda, he won’t arrive until next summer, first playing another season with Sporting, who are currently five points behind FC Porto in top spot. But in a big blow for the youngster, he is now set for around two months out after suffering a foot fracture.

Foot injuries are notoriously tricky for players to return from, and so the winger’s return will be some time in the new year. The 18-year-old has made 22 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring five times and assisting eight.

Quenda will be hoping to get back to fitness and form some time in February, and it’s not out of the question that he pushes for a spot in the Portugal World Cup squad, although he would likely need a particularly fruitful end to the season.

Either way, he will be rocking ap at Cobham at some stage during the summer, with Chelsea set to land a much-needed reinforcement in the wide areas.
