Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo would prefer a move to Arsenal this winter amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Sun.
The Ghana international has had a fantastic start to the Premier League campaign, registering six goals and three assists from 14 appearances.
The 25-year-old has a release clause worth £65 million valid from January 1-10, and Spurs are known to be interested in landing his signature.
Amidst this, The Sun claim that Semenyo has reservations about joining Thomas Frank’s side, and the winger had a similar stance last summer.
Semenyo, described as ‘world-class‘ by Justin Kluivert, would prefer to join Arsenal, Manchester City or Liverpool instead at the start of the year.
The former Bristol City man has not ruled out staying with the Cherries for the season. His release clause will be reduced to £60 million next summer.
Arsenal unlikely to pursue winter deal for Semenyo
The Gunners bolstered their attack last summer with Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres.
Madueke was brought in to provide cover to Bukayo Saka on the right wing. Eze is seen as a competitor to Martin Odegaard in the number 10 role. Gyokeres has shared his duties upfront with Mikel Merino.
Arsenal did not sign a marquee left winger last summer, but the decision has proved a blessing in disguise with the impressive form of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli this campaign.
Trossard has been fantastic with 11 goal contributions from just 17 appearances. Martinelli has five goal involvements in four Champions League games and scored a dramatic equaliser versus Manchester City.
Hence, there is no need to reinforce the left-wing department. The club are also unlikely to make a huge outlay of £65 million on Semenyo in January after a £250 million plus spending spree last summer.
With the Profit and Sustainability Rules in place until next summer, Arsenal may need to complete a big-money sale this winter to afford Semenyo. That appears unlikely to happen, in our point of view.
Trossard will enter the final year of his contract in July next year. The Belgian could head for the exit door by then, thus allowing the Gunners to invest in a marquee left winger before the 2026/27 season.
Semenyo would no doubt prefer to join Arsenal, given that he is a boyhood fan of the club. The Gunners could make an approach for him if he were to stay put with the Cherries until the summer.
