Gabby Agbonlahor sets lofty target for Leeds United after Chelsea and Liverpool success

Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor has set an ambitious target for Leeds United after their recent successes against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Leeds United looked destined to slide deeper into the Premier League relegation battle at the beginning of last week, as they faced a run of three difficult games.

However, three creditable performances which yielded four points have eased the pressure on Daniel Farke and his Leeds side ahead of the busy festive period.

Leeds’ displays against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool have convinced Jeff Stelling and Gabby Agbonlahor that the Whites will now survive this season.

According to Agbonlahor, Leeds should now have their sights set on climbing the table, as they prepare for their next fixture against Brentford.

Gabby Agbonlahor sets Leeds United target for next three games

Speaking on TalkSport, Agbonlahor explained why Leeds should now be looking to climb the Premier League table.

According to Agbonlahor, with an easier run of fixtures on the horizon, at least compared to their previous three games, Leeds should be looking to pick up points in the run-up to Christmas.

Agbonlahor said: “I remember speaking on here, myself and you, and we said, listen, the pressure’s not on when you’ve not been cut adrift. I remember you saying if you’re six, seven, eight points cut adrift of 17th place, fair enough, then the pressure’s on.

“But Leeds have never been that. What’s big for Leeds now is, you’ve worked so hard against the top teams. Now, next, Brentford away. You win, you drag Brentford into it.

“Crystal Palace at home. That’s a game that you have to go and get something from. And then, Sunderland away. You bring Sunderland back into it if you get a win.

“So they have to look at these three next games and say, can we get seven points from those games?”

Leeds United will have to find a new approach to score v Brentford

Leeds have found a new cutting edge from set pieces this season, with Farke’s side scoring the third-most goals in the Premier League via this route, with eight, according to Opta.

However, that approach may not be possible against Keith Andrews’ Brentford side, as the Bees have a strong track record from set pieces.

The same data from Opta shows that Brentford have conceded just two goals from set pieces this season, the joint fewest in the Premier League, which equates to 11.11% of the goals they have conceded.

Brentford’s aerial strength is at the heart of this, as the Bees have won 52.1% of their aerial duels this season, the sixth-most in the competition.
