Chelsea player ratings vs Atalanta with three 5/10s in damaging Champions League loss

Chelsea's quest for a victory in December is ongoing as they squandered a one-goal advantage against Atalanta on Tuesday night. The loss saw Chelsea tumble out of the top eight in the Champions League league phase table, with the west London side amassing 10 points from six matches.

Joao Pedro put the Blues ahead at the 25-minute mark with a clever finish after being found by Reece James' cross. Atalanta equalised on 55 minutes when Charles De Ketelaere's cross was met by Gianluca Scamacca's header. Express Sport rates and slates the Blues...

Robert Sanchez - 5

Has been in goal for the last three Champions League matches. Did well to deny Ademola Lookman from giving Atalanta an early lead.

Could have done better with Atalanta's second goal.

Josh Acheampong - 9

Made his first Champions League start, and it was at right-back. Delivered a superb cross-field pass to Jamie Gittens around the 12-minute mark that sparked an attack for the Blues. Made an incredible block at 19 minutes to stop what seemed like a certain goal for Lookman. Blocked another Lookman shot later in the first half. An outstanding performance from the teenager.

Trevoh Chalobah - 6

Chalobah was a solid presence for the Blues, although he did receive an unnecessary booking in the first half which added some pressure. Substituted at half-time.

Benoit Badiashile - 6

Badiashile showed aggression, constantly looking to step up and snatch possession from Atalanta. A reminder of his value as a centre-back when fit and available.

Marc Cucurella - 6

Cucurella showed positivity with the ball; often moving into central areas but was let down by a lack of options once there. Promising performance.

Reece James - 8

James delivered a superb assist for Joao Pedro at the 25-minute mark. An impressive run and an even better pass into the danger zone. Currently a joy to watch.

Moises Caicedo - 7

It's great for Chelsea to have Caicedo back in the line-up. If anyone needed reminding of his impact, he made a couple of sharp interceptions in the opening minutes of the match.

Pedro Neto - 6

Neto wasn't as involved as he usually is. He had some bright moments but was largely invisible in Bergamo.

Enzo Fernandez - 5

Fernandez was heavily involved early on but somewhat erratic with his crossing and shooting. More sloppy than usual, and concerning signs given his similar performance at Bournemouth over the weekend. Appears fatigued.

Jamie Gittens - 5

Gittens started brightly, constantly challenging the wing-back and consequently pushing him back. Unfortunately, he faded as the game progressed.

Joao Pedro - 8

It was brilliant for the Brazilian to score a goal. His smart movement allowed him to find space near the post, and he finished with real finesse.

Substitutes

Wesley Fofana (on for Chalobah 46') - 5

Came on during the half-time interval. Allowed Scamacca too much room for the striker's goal. Suffered a knock to the head, which cut his time on the pitch short.

Malo Gusto (on for Fernandez 66') - 6

Entered the game in midfield, almost in the No. 10 role. Didn't get too involved.

Alejandro Garnacho (on for Neto 66') - 6

The Argentine didn't make the impact we were hoping for.

Tosin Adarabioyo (on for Fofana 76') - N/A

Joined the game for the last 15 minutes or so.
