Joao Pedro scored his first Champions League goal, before the Blues were pegged back by a header from former West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca.
The Blues looked in control of the game, however Enzo Maresca’s side were rocked when Charles De Ketelaere blasted a long-range strike through Robert Sanchez.

Chelsea player ratings vs Atalanta in the Champions League
Robert Sanchez – 5/10
Could do very little about the goal from Scamacca, but should have done better to deny De Ketelaere Atalanta’s second goal.
Josh Acheampong – 7/10
Didn’t look out of place in the starting side after his long, and frankly bizarre absence from the side. Josh Acheampong should be utilised way more by Maresca.
Trevoh Chalobah – 6/10
Was replaced at half-time after a relatively comfortable first half of action.
Benoit Badiashile – 6/10
Good to see Badiashile get more minutes in the tank, and he showed what he could do in terms of progressing the ball forwards from the back.
Marc Cucurella – 6/10
Marc Cucurella helped out a lot in attack in the first half, but struggled to have as much impact in the game as Atalanta brought a fight to the Blues.
Reece James – 9/10
Reece James is simply a brilliant footballer. This isn’t news to any Chelsea fan, but the way he has made the seamless transition into becoming a regular in midfield needs more recognition.
Chelsea’s best player on the night, providing the assist for Pedro.
Moises Caicedo – 7/10
Won plenty of his battles upon his return to the starting side, and gave a timely reminder of the quality player Chelsea are missing as he serves his Premier League suspension.
Enzo Fernandez – 6/10
Had a really good chance to double Chelsea’s lead when he sprung in behind the Atalanta defence, but struggled in the key moment. Could certainly have provided more in the final third.
Pedro Neto – 6/10
Easily one of the quickest players to put on a Chelsea shirt, and beat his man on multiple occasions down the right. Never felt like a goal was coming from him.
Jamie Gittens – 5/10
Continues to struggle to emerge as a trusted option for Maresca. Jamie Gittens had a powerful strike saved in the second half but never really had the upper hand in his personal 1v1 battle.
Joao Pedro – 8/10
Was a dominant force up front all night, and found the net for the first time in the Champions League after a lengthy VAR check.
Wesley Fofana – 5/10
Completely lost Scamacca for the Atalanta goal, a moment which allowed the Italians back into the game. Was later forced off with a horror eye injury.
Malo Gusto – 5/10
Failed to really make any impact on proceedings after coming on in the second half
Alejandro Garnacho – 7/10
Looked far brighter than Gittens on the left wing, but was unable to bring the finishing touch.
Tosin Adarabioyo – N/A
