Liverpool manager Arne Slot still has plenty of work to do in order to completely turn things around at Anfield

The Reds went into the game with all the discussion around Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian gave a bombshell interview after Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United, claiming that somebody at the club wanted him out and that he no longer has a relationship with the manager.

He was left on Merseyside on Tuesday as his teammates battled to a big three points against Inter. However, the players on the pitch at the San Siro were able to put all that discussion aside and increase their hopes of finishing in the top eight.

While the win eases the pressure on Slot, there is still a long way to go before the Dutchman has shown he has turned things around.

Liverpool ‘hold talks’ with Como manager Cesc Fabregas

According to Anfield Index, sporting director Richard Hughes has held ‘initial talks’ with Como manager Cesc Fabregas. The World Cup winner with Spain is said to have an informal agreement in place with Como that would allow him to leave the Serie A club but only to join Barcelona, Arsenal or Chelsea.

Fabregas has played for all three of those clubs during his career. He won two Premier League titles with Chelsea along with a La Liga and Copa del Rey with Barcelona. He was also an FA Cup winner at Arsenal.

He is revered as one of the best midfielders of his generation but is relatively inexperienced as a manager. He has taken charge of 54 games since being appointed at Como, winning 21, drawing 16 and losing 17.

Fabregas is said to have impressed senior figures at Liverpool and he is viewed as an option to oversee a long-term project. However, Slot is likely to retain his post for a few weeks yet following the win over Inter.

Now the focus has to be on turning their Premier League fortunes around. Up next is a clash with Brighton and Hove Albion as the Reds look to climb up the table.

They have won seven of their 15 games, losing six and drawing two. After Brighton, they face Tottenham and Wolves to finish December. They then start the new year with games against Leeds United, Fulham and Arsenal.

It must not be forgotten that Slot did win the Premier League title in his first season - now his challenge is to show he can adapt to the several challenges that have been thrown his way.
