Players throughout the NBA have made it clear that the NBA Cup's prize money matters to them.
Just this week, [Knicks](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/new-york-knicks) guard Tyler Kolek said he bought his mom a new car with the money he earned by making it to the in-season tournament's quarterfinal round.
Compared to some of the superstars' gigantic contracts, maybe it doesn't seem like a ton.
But at every level of the league, the players wouldn't mind the extra cash that comes from winning the NBA Cup.
What's the NBA Cup's prize money?
---------------------------------
The NBA Cup has a tiered prize money system that starts with each of the eight teams that reach the quarterfinal round. Every player on a quarterfinalist receives $50,000.
The exact numbers beyond that are related to a formula called Basketball-Related Income.
The 2024 tournament had these totals, [according to USA Today](https://x.com/JeffZillgitt/status/1856466733852495895):
* **Win championship:** $514,790
* **Reach championship game:** $205,988
* **Reach semifinal game:** $102,994
* **Reach quarterfinal game:** $51,497
Head coaches get the same amount as players, while assistants get a smaller proportion.
