With a two-game road trip coming up for the Montreal Canadiens, they’ve dipped into their minor-league depth and recalled a player at every position. Owen Beck has received his second recall of the season, Adam Engström is back after joining the team for the previous road trip, and Jacob Fowler will join the NHL team for the first time.

The Canadiens had been playing with the minimum number of players to put together an 18-skater lineup, and these recalls allow some options for building a lineup. After two mistake-filled games, this could be as much a message to some of the regulars on the NHL roster as it is an opportunity for some of the top prospects in the system.

We can expect a couple of scratches for Thursday’s game in Pittsburgh. It wouldn’t be surprising if Brendan Gallagher was one of them after he was seen leaving the bench on a few occasions in recent games, but we’ll have to see what the plan is for Engström, and if Dobeš is up to play or just get some road experience and spark the duo already in place. It should be noted that Samuel Montembeault was listed as out with an illness for Sunday’s game and could still be feeling the effects.
