After the solitary victory in their last six outings, Arne Slot's Liverpool got back to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph over Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday – all without the talismanic Mohamed Salah in the side. The Egyptian's rant after his side's 3-3 draw with Leeds United saw him dropped from the squad and Jamie Carragher's post-match post after their win at San Siro has caused a stir.
"I could not believe I was sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. That’s the third time. It’s the first time in my career I think. I am very disappointed, I have done so much for this club over years, especially last season, It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus," Salah said in the Elland Road mixed zone.
"That’s how I feel it. Someone wants me to get all the blame. The club promised me a lot in summer. Now I’m on bench so I can say they haven’t kept those promises," he said, much to the annoyance of Carragher. The defender-turned-pundit responded to his comments on Monday Night Football – but his post on X (formerly Twitter) after Tuesday night's win paints the picture of how he's feeling.

The next couple of months – due to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the opening of the mid-season transfer window – are going to be very interesting for the reigning champions of the Premier League. Will Salah finally leave the club after extending his deal by two years not too long ago? Will Slot be relieved of his duties after spending north of £400 million in the summer?
And while the Liverpool squad – including Dominik Szoboszlai, who converted his penalty to open and close the scoring late on – were in Italy, Salah was watching from the comfort of his own home. In fact, he even had time to fit in a gym session during the day. He made sure to make his 19 million followers on X aware that he was hard at work amid a falling out with Slot.
Albeit a club legend, many feel that Salah – widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Premier League history – has overstepped the mark and among them is Carragher.
In direct response to the photo of Salah pumping iron in the club gym, Carragher took to X in the midst of the turbulence. "I'm not sure I've wanted Liverpool to win a game more than tonight for a long time!" the pundit said ahead of the match getting started in the Italian capital. "Come on you mighty Reds!"
Once Slot's men managed to pick up three valuable points on the road, Carragher couldn't help but reply to himself. "Get in," he wrote alongside two emojis – a flexing muscle and a love heart – as his former side perhaps proved they are able to win without Salah operating on the right flank. With AFCON on the horizon, it remains unknown when Salah will next don the red strip of Liverpool.
"Can't remember the last time you posted that after a Liverpool win, it's actually mad how much Mo Salah is living rent-free in your head," one fan said in response to the Anfield legend. Another added: "You are shameless."
Next up for the Reds is a Premier League encounter against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon. Slot remained coy when asked about the relationship between himself and his superstar wide man ahead of things getting underway at the San Siro – and whether he can let bygones be bygones is the question on everybody's lips ahead of what could be a very interesting weekend.

Carragher Admits He Was 'So Desperate' For Liverpool To Win

Szoboszlai, as mentioned, was the man of the moment as the Reds thrust themselves into the automatic qualification spots of the Champions League league phase. They are now on 12 points after six matches – and Carragher admitted to being 'over the moon' for Slot. "I was so desperate for Liverpool to win tonight, as I am every time Liverpool play, as you know. More so for the manager.
"I don't know him that well, I've got no real relationship with him, but he is the Liverpool manager, we know what has gone on and we don't need to go into that. I think what was really telling was supporters chanting his name, not when it went 1-0, but when it was 0-0. The supporters who go home and away to watch Liverpool and know the score about what has gone on over the last few days."
He continued: "They are right behind the manager and even more so on the back of that result, it is a massive result at a very tough place to go and they needed that off the back of losing their last game in the Champions League at home.
