Joao Pedro “disappointed” with Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League

Chelsea striker Joao Pedro says that Chelsea were not happy with their 2-1 defeat to Serie A side Atalanta.

Pedro got his first UEFA Champions League goal when he turned home a cross by Reece James from close range.

The goal was originally ruled out for offside, but after a check of around 90 seconds, James was found to be in an onside position, so the goal was awarded.

The Italian side came out in the second half much stronger, though, and found a deserved equaliser when Charles De Ketelaere’s cross found Gianluca Scamacca in acres of space, allowing the forward to head home.

It was De Ketelaere’s goal that would prove decisive in the 83rd minute, a quick free-kick from the hosts seeing the ball played into the Belgian, who drove at goal and fired his effort hard and under the grasp of Robert Sanchez.

Pedro had a chance to equalise at the death, but he fired his shot straight at Marco Carnesecchi.

The Brazil forward admits the Blues came to win and were disappointed they had not.

“We are disappointed because we came to win the game,” admitted Pedro.

"We started the game well, but I think in the Champions League, if you give chances to the other team, then letting them score will make it a much more difficult game.

“I think we need to go back to England to learn and to be ready for the next game.

Lots of chances in the first half, but higher intensity caused issues in the second half.

“In the first half, we controlled the game very well and had lots of chances to score

“For 10 minutes in the second half, they built up the power because they played a home game, so the fans also helped them a lot

“In the Champions League, if you concede one goal and let in the second goal too early, then it is difficult to come back, but we need to learn and be focused for the next game.”
