Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk admitted that Mohamed Salah's absence created a "collective difficult situation" for the squad to navigate. He acknowledged that "between Mo and the club things are going on and the consequences means he is not here today," but insisted the team remained focused on winning.
When questioned about whether Salah should apologise for his public airing of grievances, Van Dijk refused to directly comment on that aspect of the incident. The captain stated, "I don't think I am the one who has to speak about if someone has to apologise," explaining that Salah's decision to air his feelings is ultimately a matter for the club to handle.
Despite the ongoing internal friction, Van Dijk stressed that the team's on-pitch motivation was unaffected by the off-field issues. He emphasised that "nothing changes for our motivation to get results for the club," highlighting the squad’s unified commitment to their professional duties.
Van Dijk offered insight into his personal relationship with the forward, noting they have shared many highs and lows as key figures at the club.
