Report: One 'concerning' result left Liverpool at breaking point with Arne Slot

There is no question that Liverpool have failed to live up to expectations this season.

The defending Premier League champions are marooned in midtable - following consecutive draws against newly-promoted Sunderland and Leeds.

A high-profile row, meanwhile, between Mohamed Salah and Arne Slot is the last thing the club needed - with the Egyptian forward banished for the Champions League tie against Inter.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this - especially after Richard Hughes spent £450m on squad improvements over the summer.

British-record deals were concluded for Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz but all the additions have done is make Liverpool look worse.

Slot has been unable to find a formula for consistent results- with Liverpool winning only four of their last 15 matches in all competitions.

Concerns raised after PSV loss

But one result inside the club stands out above all others - according to a report in ESPN with the game against PSV in November sounding the alarm bells.

The Reds had just lost consecutive league games to Manchester City and Nottingham Forest - with each result being a 3-0 defeat.

Much was expected in the way of a response when an admittedly in-form Eindhoven side came to Anfield on November 26.

However the club’s season hit a new low that night with Peter Bosz’s side running riot and claiming a 4-1 victory away from home.

“Liverpool's UEFA Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven last month was a "breaking-point moment" among some within the club, which, although not a loss that confirmed Slot's fate, was a result that raised concerns that had not previously surfaced during the poor results and performances going into that game,” the report reads.
