Mike Maignan to Chelsea may be more likely than ever if new transfer rumour is true

Chelsea have been strongly linked with signing Mike Maignan on multiple occasions during 2025, with many supporters wanting a new shot stopper at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were close to signing Maignan before the Club World Cup, however fell short with their valuation of the experienced goalkeeper.

They instead went into the competition with Robert Sanchez between the sticks, and his good performances across the pond saw Chelsea content going into the new season with him in goal.

Despite an upturn in form since his dire 2024, there are still plenty of fans who would like to see the position strengthened, with Maignan fitting the bill for many.

A deal for the Blues would be more desirable if he was to leave AC Milan as a free agent next summer, and this could be more likely than ever after reports of the Serie A side looking to sign a new top goalkeeper.

According to Sky in Switzerland, Milan are keen on a deal to sign Alisson Becker from Liverpool, with him identified as the successor to Maignan.

It has been reported throughout this season that Chelsea are working on a deal for Maignan, with there set to be plenty of interest in his services if he is available for free.

Chelsea have been told they could win the league with a new goalkeeper, and it could be all change in the position from as soon as next year.

Chelsea could have two new first team goalkeepers next season

Reports have stated that Filip Jorgensen is keen on a move away from Stamford Bridge due to his lack of game time as Chelsea’s reserve goalkeeper.

The Blues want to move him on permanently, however may soften in their stance if they are able to bring in Maignan.

Mike Penders has been impressing on loan for Strasbourg, and is being tipped for big things when he finally emerges in West London.

It is very believable at this point that Maignan and Penders could be the goalkeeping options at Stamford Bridge for the 2026/27 campaign, giving the youngster a great role model to learn from at the club.
