Mo Salah ‘wished us all well’ – Andy Robertson reveals “support was still there”

Andy Robertson has made it clear that Mo Salah sent the Liverpool squad to Milan with his best wishes, with that support “all you can ask” for as a teammate.

Liverpool may have only won for the second time in seven games, but the focus unsurprisingly remained on Salah’s absence when the players fronted the media post-match.

Robertson, Liverpool’s vice-captain, was particularly impressive in his handling of the situation, offering insight into the winger’s mentality and the support he gave his teammates.

Asked by CBS Sports on how Salah is handling the fallout, Robertson said: “Firstly, he would probably want the season to have went better for the club, and for him.

“He puts a huge amount of pressure on himself to perform all the time. Last season he took it to a whole new level in terms of, at times, he carried this whole team forward to go and achieve amazing things.

"We've all been below the standards of last season, Mo included and he'll be the first to admit that."

“I think we’ve all been below the standards of last season, Mo included. And he’ll be first to admit that.

“And then obviously finds himself out of the team, which is probably a bit of a unique situation for him.

“It’s obviously something that he’s not used to experiencing, but he was positive yesterday (Monday) in terms of wishing us all well, sending us on our way.

“I’m sure he would like to be involved. But the support for the lads was still there. As a teammate, that’s all you can ask.”

It was evidently important for Robertson to ensure that message was conveyed amid the ongoing saga, with Salah having not alienated his teammates in the process.

None have hidden the fact that the Egyptian is suffering the consequences of his actions, but the hope remains that they have not played their last match with Salah.

As for Robertson’s view on that matter, he told Amazon Prime: “That will obviously be up to other people, it’s not up to me. I love playing with Mo Salah, and I hope to continue to play with him.”
