Liverpool picked up a huge win at the San Siro on Tuesday night as they defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League
Stephen Warnock hails mature Curtis Jones performance
Former Reds defender Warnock was on commentary for BBC Radio 5 Live, and said after the game just how impressed he was with Curtis Jones.
The former Villa man said on the airwaves: “Curtis Jones was absolutely sensational tonight. I thought it was a real mature performance and he actually grew up tonight. I know that sounds really daft because he's already 24, but it was one of the most performances from him tonight.”
Jones delivered an incredible display in terms of ball retention as he rarely lost possession as Liverpool frustrated Inter. He made three out of three dribbles, had 81 touches and 96 per cent of his 70 passes found a Liverpool player. He also made four recoveries and won four out of seven ground duels.
Arne Slot pleased with solid Champions League display
Reacting to the win, Reds boss Arne Slot said: “I think we've done well in the Champions League apart from our result against PSV at home, of course. In the Premier League, I think we're not the only team who are finding it hard to win games.
“We've been a few times so close to better results than we had and if we would have got the ones we deserved but we didn't get for the reasons I've already explained a few of, then with a few points more we would have been in a much, much, much better position than we are now. The margins are so small. I think if we would have won against Leeds, that would have been completely normal.
“I can come up with a few other moments where we deserved much more than we got. So yeah, as a result of that, it's been a season with ups and downs. But, indeed, in the Champions League we've done mainly well.
“I don't think it's a psychological issue because we have shown so much mentality throughout this season with all the setbacks we've faced, one of them this Saturday and much bigger ones before the season and during the season. I think I can only compliment my players about how much mentality and fight experience they've shown throughout this whole season. That we've been multiple times very unlucky, that's also clear and that has led to the position we are in in the league.”
