Mohamed Salah gets a fresh kicking from Germany – Liverpool see €70m Saudi fee

Mohamed Salah has been on the end of a prolonged kicking from German magazine SportBild since not long after Florian Wirtz joined Liverpool.

Bild is the biggest selling newspaper in Europe, and SportBild is an offshoot weekly magazine. Pushed mainly by their Leverkusen reporter, the narrative for weeks has been clear: Mohamed Salah’s time at Anfield is over because he’s a problem for Florian Wirtz

That hasn’t been the only attack line, but the major one. Some of the claims have been outrageous, such as calling the Egyptian ‘poison’, presenting the dressing room as being sick of his selfishness, and blaming him for Wirtz’s failure to shine.

SportBild made it clear in mid November that according to their information, Salah was the man of the past and would soon be out. A transfer to Saudi Arabia was talked up twice, and it’s worth noting this was all prior to him being dropped and the situation kicking off.

Now, SportBild are back, waving their hands in the air and shouting told you so.

Their title this week is ‘Why Salah will be sold immediately’. A screenshot of one of their November articles is included – the one which made it clear he was being edged out and called him the ‘problem for Wirtz and Liverpool’.

Unsurprisingly, after his post-Leeds United rant, SportBild present Salah as the biggest villain in global football: ‘His reaction revealed to the public the Egyptian’s presumably true colours. He is perhaps the biggest divisive figure in world football. He gives the impression that he is always looking out for himself, not the team.’

And: ‘Salah exposed himself before the eyes of the world. Me, me, me. The end of an egomaniac star.’

According to the report, Michael Edwards is going to use the outburst as reason to get rid, and it’s believed getting €70m from a Saudi club is realistic. That feels ambitious.

Mohamed Salah presented as Liverpool enemy

SportBild make a point of telling everyone they reported Mohamed Salah was a problem and on his way out of Liverpool before others

In a separate article, the Leverkusen reporter puts forward the case for Liverpool selling immediately.

Salah ‘is the enemy in the dressing room’, according their information. Liverpool are said to have known for years that his ego is a problem.

If that wasn’t enough, a few more digs are thrown: ‘The fact that Wirtz is now the driving force behind the attack, a future in which Salah plays no part, caused the Egyptian to explode. He’s the enemy of his own dressing room. But not for much longer. Liverpool must sell Salah immediately to rekindle the “You’ll Never Walk Alone” spirit within the team.’

The prolonged attack on a player in another country has been odd to say the least. It started before the drama really got going. There was an insistence of inside information about what was going on, something which they give themselves a star for today.

SportBild will likely be getting a Christmas card from the Florian Wirtz camp.
