Liverpool beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night as Mohamed Salah was not part of the travelling squad
Liverpool manager Arne Slot said it ‘meant a lot’ for the travelling supporters in the San Siro to sing his name amid the fallout over Mohamed Salah’s bombshell comments following Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United.
During the game, away supporters could be heard chanting Slot’s name - a clear indication of where that set of supporters fall in the debate over Salah.
Arne Slot responds as fans sing his name
Speaking after the game, Slot was asked about the chants and said: “What it means for me that the fans sing my name, that means a lot for me, but I said yesterday, it's not about me - it's about the team. They were also there for the team.
“Again, so many away fans in difficult circumstances for the club and it shows you one more time if things go against us, or if there is a hard time, we are all there for each other, we fight together and that's what the fans and the players showed today.”
Asked further where he stands on the situation with Salah, Slot said: “Where I stand is that tonight it should all be about the players that are here. In the rich history Liverpool has, they have had many of these evenings but in the season we are in, I think if you have an away win in this stadium against such a strong team then it should be about the midfield or about Ibou or about the ones that are here.
“They deserve all the credits. I fully understand on Friday I get a lot of questions again about other things, but tonight it should be about the ones who are here.”
Will Mo Salah play for Liverpool again
While speaking to reporters on Saturday night in Leeds, Salah said he had told his parents to come to the game against Brighton this weekend - hinting it could be his last at Anfield.
After the clash with the Seagulls, Salah heads to AFCON with Egypt and will be gone until January. He will return at some point next month but it depends on how far Egypt progress.
