Mohamed Salah’s interview certainly caused a big storm, but it is still not over just yet.
The Reds have handled themselves immaculately since Salah decided to throw them under the bus, with his comments far from acceptable, especially based on how their season is going as a whole.
Getting the win against Inter Milan has definitely strengthened Arne Slot’s position in this standoff, with this result proof that they can cope without Salah in the side.

The ball is now in the Egyptian’s court, with an apology to his manager sounding like it will be enough to see him integrated back into the side.
Steven Gerrard, however, thinks one player still needs to get involved, with this being the only way it will be dealt with fast.

As the captain, Virgil van Dijk is involved in this situation whether he likes it or not, it being his job to keep the harmony in the squad.
He admitted after Liverpool’s win that he has not yet spoken to Salah about the situation, and now Gerrard says this is something he must do and lead by example.

“He’s obviously really upset that he’s not playing, which I respect. He wants to help the team, which I respect. But a couple of lines about throwing a few people under the bus, wrong,” Gerrard said on TNT Sports.

“I did the Salah statement against United in 30 seconds and got sent off, so no one is perfect, we’ve all had head losses as players and done emotional things.

“But at the end of the day, Liverpool Football Club need Mo Salah, back playing well, back scoring goals because he is the best player, the best scorer and he will help them get out of this.

Van Dijk speaking to Salah seems to be the last logical step before a resolution is found, with everything up until this point being handled perfectly.
Slot and Alisson handled the press conference very well, as well as Andy Robertson in the post-match interview, with it sounding like everyone is on the same wavelength.
The Dutchman is still clearly respected among most of the group, with Salah’s outburst seen very much as a one-off.
They now have just over three days to prepare for their next game and Salah’s last before AFCON, but if he does not own up to his mistakes, it could be his last-ever match for Liverpool.
