Everton prospect hailed as 'unbelievable talent' as opponents 'treble up' on him

Accrington Stanley manager John Doolan has been praising Everton winger Isaac Heath who is with the League Two club on a season-long loan

Everton prospect Isaac Heath has been hailed as “an unbelievable talent” by Accrington Stanley manager John Doolan. The Blues winger joined the League Two side on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day September 1 after impressing against them in Everton’s opening pre-season friendly.

That was a 1-1 draw at the Wham Stadium on July 15 when Heath came off the bench as a 62nd-minute substitute and won the penalty which Beto converted to spare David Moyes’ men’s blushes after Ben Ward had opening the scoring for the hosts.

Since making his temporary switch to Accrington, the 21-year-old from Leeds, who has been with Everton since he was 13 and was their Under-21s player of the season in 2024/25, has made 17 appearances, scoring five goals and providing four assists.

Heath enjoyed mixed fortunes at the weekend, firing Stanley ahead against League One Mansfield Town in their FA Cup second-round tie on Saturday with a 27th-minute strike, but with the game ending 2-2 after extra time, he saw his decisive final penalty for the hosts saved by Stags keeper Owen Mason in the resultant shoot-out to ensure Nigel Clough’s side went through to be drawn away at Championship Sheffield United.

Doolan has been impressed with what the Blues academy graduate has shown him so far though and told BBC Radio Lancashire: “He’s a top player, but we’ve brought top players to the club.

“We’ve got the lads from Burnley, Logan (Pye) has had a bit of a hamstring issue and he’s still trying to find his feet in that position in terms of left-back, but he’s a good left-back as we’ve seen in the Under-21s and Joe Bauress is a top player, he’s a top footballer, he showed his qualities when he came on, on Saturday. Isaac Heath is just an unbelievable talent.

“To see what teams are doing to him now, doubling up, trebling up – they trebled up on him on Saturday – they had (Adedeji) Oshilaja whose been playing centre-back and central midfield for Burton for years and centre-back for Mansfield recently, ends up playing left-back to stop him.

“In the second half they changed their shape and had him playing right side of a back three and they also put Lucas Akins against him, who’s a unit. He’s getting asked loads of questions, he’s figuring it out himself, he’s got answers.

“He’s scoring goals and assisting. He’s a constant threat and he’s only going to get better.”
