Aston Villa have catapulted themselves into the Premier League title race under the guidance of Unai Emery
Aston Villa secured a dramatic last-gasp win over Arsenal last time out. They took the lead in the first half against the Gunners through wing-back Matty Cash before the visitors levelled things up courtesy of Leandro Trossard. Unai Emery’s men then snatched a late winner through Emi Buendia.
The Midlands outfit are now sat in 3rd place in the Premier League table and are only three points off top spot. They are back in action on Thursday night with a Europa League clash against FC Basel. A league trip to the London Stadium to play West Ham then lies in store at the weekend.
Aston Villa target Gremio attacker Alysson
Aston Villa are being linked with a move for Gremio attacker Alysson ahead of the January transfer window. They will get the opportunity to bring in some new faces this winter. As per journalist Ben Jacobs (via Bolavip Brasil) they have gone as far as to make a bid for Alysson ahead of next month.
Reporter Jacobs has posted on X: “Aston Villa have placed a €12m bid for 19-year-old attacker Alysson, as @BolavipBR called. Grêmio are currently considering the offer.”
Alysson, 19, is also said to be on the radar of Liverpool. According to BolaVip, the Reds have been tracking the player over recent times. He is under contract in South America until 2029 meaning his current club are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon and can wait for the right offer to come in for his signature.
The teenager has been on the books of Gremio for his whole career to date. He has risen up through their academy and has been a regular for them at various different youth levels. The winger penned his first professional deal back in 2022.
Allyson then made his first-team debut last year and hasn’t looked back since. He has since made 43 appearances in all competitions, 31 of which came in the Brazilian Serie A. The prospect has chipped in with two goals and five assists along the way.
What would Alysson offer to Aston Villa?
Aston Villa could see Alysson as someone they can develop over the coming years. If he joined, he would give them another option to pick from on the wing in the interim period. As with any player from abroad, patience would be required whilst he adapted to life in a new country and he would probably need time to find his feet and settle.
If one or both of Sancho and Elliott are to depart, Emery could do with another option or two going forward. Alysson would help plug a gap but probably wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter in their line-up. Liverpool are also seemingly in the frame and may hope to trump other clubs in this race.
