The BlueCo consortium that owns Chelsea has agreed to sign Mohamed Zongo, with the 16-year-old prodigy to first join Strasbourg and potentially Chelsea further down the line.
Standard Sport has been told Zongo will first join Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club, but will be monitored by Chelsea staff during his time in France, with an eye to becoming a Chelsea signing of the future if he continues to progress.
Zongo starred for Burkina Faso on their run to the quarter-finals of the Under-17 World Cup.The midfielder, who currently plays for Sporting Football Cascades, scored the winner as his nation stunned Germany in the round of 16.
Scouts from a number of top European clubs were in attendance at games across last month’s U17 World Cup in Qatar, and many took note of the performances produced by Zongo, who is left-footed.
His 16th birthday came at the end of last month so his impressive displays at the tournament came when he was aged just 15.
In the summer, BlueCo made a similar agreement to sign the 21-year-old Paraguayan international Julio Enciso, with the Brighton man joining Strasbourg first.

Though much more experienced than Zongo, Chelsea similarly view him as a potential Stamford Bridge arrival of the future, all being well.
Zongo has previously been linked with a number of top European clubs, including Villarreal, but it is BlueCo and, initially, Strasbourg who have won what was a very competitive race to sign him.
