Curtis Jones insists Liverpool “always” behind Arne Slot: “We’re there with him”

Curtis Jones is the latest player to insist that Arne Slot has the backing of the Liverpool squad, with the midfielder describing his head coach as “hungry as ever.”

Liverpool have five wins from their last 16 games in all competitions, a stark contrast to the formidable form at the respective period of last season.

Slot has had to become accustomed to scrutiny and pressure, and the latter will not dissipate until the malaise looks to be in the rearview mirror.

There have been calls to start afresh with Slot seemingly unable to tactically adjust to his new signings and the approach from the opposition, but Jones insists he has the squad’s backing.

“We always are (behind Arne Slot), always are,” he told reporters after the win at Inter, via the BBC.

“He’s human at the end of the day so, of course, if we get beat, it obviously affects him.

“It affects us all too, the same way it affects the fans. He is a positive man, he always makes a change and the style of play has changed a bit.

“He’s as hungry as ever, he’s exactly the same as us. He is in it there with us as well, and we’re there with him.”

Journalist David Ornstein reported on NBC Sports on Monday that Liverpool’s hierarchy are “100 percent behind” Slot, who has their backing to improve his side’s form.

However, there will be questions over whether the club will be looking closely at Xabi Alonso’s situation at Real Madrid after he admitted he would consider a return to Liverpool in the future.

Alisson says players “believe” in Arne Slot

Jones is not the first player to say the Liverpool squad believe in Slot, with Alisson insisting that was the case when he spoke to the press in Italy.

“Of course, yeah we are,” Alisson replied when asked if the players are still behind the manager.

“The Premier League last season, before Arne came in everyone talks about the huge challenge of being the successor for Jurgen Klopp.

“Everyone takes for granted last season, it should not be taken for granted. That should be enough, but we believe in his knowledge, his style of playing and turning around this situation.

“That’s the situation with the club as well, they trust him.

“It’s not only his responsibility, as a player I share the responsibility to turn this around. We are responsible. We take this responsibility, we are the ones that can change everything.

“We are trying, doesn’t make it easier, but we are trying to do that. We have the desire to change.

“The manager has the desire as well and to be back on the winning track and playing the same good football we were playing last season.”
