Just in: BBC reporter says Everton eyeing move to sign 'impeccable' star in 2026

Everton are eyeing a January transfer window move to sign Botafogo right-back Vitinho, according to BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella.

The Toffees are likely to be in the market for a new right-sided defender after enduring difficulties this season. James Garner has regularly had to fill in at right-back, while Jake O'Brien, who is predominantly a central defender, has also been a regular in this position.

Other options include Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson, but they've both endured injury problems over the last few years, while the former is reaching the latter stages of his career. After an impressive start to the 2025/2026 season, the Toffees will be hoping to bring in reinforcements to continue their momentum.

According to a report from Kinsella and the BBC, Everton are in the market for a new right-back ahead of the January transfer window. The Merseyside club are hoping to see Garner develop more in the middle of the park, rather than filling in at right-back, meaning a new defender will be necessary in the upcoming window.

Botafogo right-back Vitinho is believed to be on Everton's list for January, but they will only make a move if they believe he is the perfect option. Due to the Toffees having multiple cover options in this position, they'd be willing to wait until the summer to sign a new right-back if necessary.

A right-back is understandably going to be one of Everton's priorities for 2026, and Vitinho could be in line for a return to the Premier League.

Vincent Kompany Waxes Lyrical on Vitinho

Vitinho spent some time at English club Burnley recently, before his move to Botafogo, and was managed by Vincent Kompany. The now-Bayern Munich boss waxed lyrical about the Brazilian right-back, labelling him 'impeccable'.

“That’s him summed up. Attitude? Impeccable. Workrate, speed, athleticism. He was already important for us in the Championship last year but I think his physical profile has enabled him to adapt to the Premier League and even in this league he is giving us so much.”

Vitinho spent some time in the Premier League before Burnley were relegated, but also played in a role in them gaining promotion to the Championship.
