Mikel Arteta Told He Needs To Make“Huge Call”Amid Controversial Eberechi Eze Claim

Mikel Arteta has been told he needs to pick between Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze in the attacking midfield position rather than forcing Eze out wide.

The Arsenal boss will have his attention solely focussed on the Champions League, as the Gunners are preparing for a game against Club Brugge. With a win, the Gunners will remain with an 100% record in the competition, winning every game so far.

Arteta will likely want to rotate a little bit after a tough week which saw his side play against Chelsea and Aston Villa, but he needs to ensure that he makes the right line-up calls, a decision that is never easy.

Eberechi Eze has been playing really well in the attacking midfield role recently, but now that Martin Odegaard is back from an injury, Eze has moved back out to the left-wing, which isn’t his preferred role.

Arteta told to make “huge call” between Eze and Odegaard

Amid the competition for the attacking midfield role, former Premier League scout Mick Brown told Football Insider, that Arteta has to decide how he can either play both players in a preferred role, or picking one player over the other.

Brown said: “There have been some questions about Eze in this Arsenal team. When he was in midfield for Arsenal, he had that to an extend, because Declan Rice and Zubimendi would do the dirty work and let him do his bit going forward.

“Now Odegaard has come back in, he’s been put out on the wing, but everybody knows Eze isn’t an out-and-out winger, that’s not his position. So there’s a huge call for Arteta to make, do you put Eze back into midfield and accept there are limitations to what he gives, or play him out of position?”

The options for Arteta are that he rotates between the two players game by game, or picks one over the other. If not, Eze will remain playing in an unnatural position on the wing.
