Jayson Tatum is making strong progress in the rehab process from his ruptured right Achilles tendon. The Celtics star posted videos on his social media accounts showcasing him playing 1-on-1 with Celtics assistant coaches at the Auerbach Center.
The video reveal comes after Tatum posted a “soon” caption with his fingers crossed on his Instagram account Monday.
Tatum has been a constant presence around the Celtics at both home and road games amid his recovery. He spoke at greater length about his rehab process last week in an interview with former C’s forward Marcus Morris and NBA veteran Markieff Morris on their Morris Code Show.
“I’m feeling good,” Tatum said. “Man, it’s been a journey. This rehab (expletive) ain’t no joke. It’s been 29 weeks yesterday. So every Tuesday is a week. I’m feeling better, though. I’ve had 29 weeks to really work on my body. This is the strongest I’ve ever been. This is the best the rest of my body has ever felt.”
Tatum was open before the season about his goal of returning to the floor at some point during the 2025-26 campaign. Boston’s latest success on the floor makes that proposition a more enticing reality. The Celtics have won five straight games and 10 out of their last 12 overall to rise to third place in the Eastern Conference.
The prospect of Tatum being available for Boston at some point in the second half of the regular season would potentially turn the Celtics from a feel-good story into a bonafide Eastern Conference contender. However, Tatum is clear that he will be skipping no steps in the process as he gets closer to returning to 5-on-5 action.
“I’m just continuing to get healthy and get back to 100%,” Tatum said. “I’m trying to get as healthy as fast as I can. I ain’t rushing. But I need to be 100% before I get back on the court. Whenever that is, that’s when it’s going to be.”
