Chelsea have expressed an interested in one of the Bundesliga’s brightest young talents

Premier League heavyweights Chelsea are reported to be plotting a blockbuster move to sign RB Leipzig wonderkid Yan Diomande in the January transfer window.

The Blues have built a reputation for attracting top young talent to their football club in recent seasons under Todd Boehly, with the likes of Enzo Fernandes, Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Estêvão all moving to the club despite strong competition from other clubs.

Chelsea remain in the market for attacking talents after Liam Delap’s recent injury and are keen to add further quality to their frontline after a dip in performances in recent weeks.

Why Chelsea are interested in Yan Diomande

Diomande enjoyed a steady breakout campaign towards the end of last season with Spanish side Leganes. He scored twice and contributed one assist in the 10 appearances he made for the club as a teenager but was unable to save them from relegation despite some eye-catching performances between March and May.

His form caught the attention of RB Leipzig, a club with a reputation for finding young talent, and they signed him over the summer by activating his 20 million euro release clause.

It already looks like a real coup from the German club, who look to have unearthed one of the best young talents in the Bundesliga. Since arriving at the Red Bull Arena, Diomande has recorded seven goals and four assists from 15 matches across all competitions, including a wonderful hat-trick against top four rivals Eintracht Frankfurt in a stunning 6-0 victory last weekend.

Diomande has proven throughout the season that he can play on either wing and has already won admirers for his incredible flair, pace and clinical nature infront of goal.

“Yan Diomande is a technical, talented ball-carrier who plays with craft and force, and he only turned 19 a few weeks ago. He will not spend a long time in Leipzig and when he leaves, whenever that may be, he will cost a huge amount of money,” said Athletic writer Seb Stafford-Bloor.

Chelsea will need to spend big to sign Yan Diomande

Chelsea have shown in recent windows that they are not afraid to spend big sums to attract top talents to their football club. As it stands, the Blues are trailing in the Premier League title race and are experiencing a dip in form in Europe, amplifying the need for the club to sign further attacking quality.

Fichajes reports that RB Leipzig are desperate to keep Diomande, but could consider selling the talented winger if they are met with an offer they can’t refuse.

Chelsea have been tracking the Ivory Coast international since the start of the season and are reported to be accelerating their effort to sign him amid competition from English champions Liverpool and London rivals Arsenal, the the star named as a ‘priority’ target for the Gunners. The report states interested sides may need to offer a significant figure of around £87m to entice the player to join them in January.

Chelsea are keen to sign him soon before his value skyrockets above £100m. Man City are also linked.
