Liverpool winger confirms long term meniscus injury

Liverpool earned a vital win at the San Siro on Tuesday night, with Dominik Szoboszlai’s late penalty sealing a deserved victory over Inter Milan. The Reds were the stronger side throughout, and the spot-kick offered some justice after Ibrahima Konate’s first-half header was harshly ruled out for handball.

After losing nine of 12 earlier in the season, the Premier League champions are now unbeaten in four and showing signs of stability under Arne Slot.

On a disappointing note, Liverpool winger Kaide Gordon has confirmed he has suffered a long-term meniscus injury, sharing the news on his Instagram page. The 21-year-old posted: “So disappointed to say I have torn my meniscus and will be out for some time worst news I could have got and this one will hurt for a while but I will be back🙏🏽”

Gordon first broke into the first-team setup under Jurgen Klopp at the end of 2021, and his talent was so evident that some supporters tipped him as a potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. However, a combination of lengthy injuries and unproductive loan spells has prevented the attacker from building on that early promise.

Recently, Gordon had been impressing again at the academy under new Under-21s manager Rob Page, who had even suggested the winger could earn a move to another club for the second half of the campaign.

Page said: “He was obviously looking to go out on loan (in the summer) for his next step in his career. “All he can do is maintain his level of performance like that and the rest will take care of itself, whether it is here or whether it is elsewhere.

“He has just got to make sure that he brings that level to every game and come January, if he is continuing to play like that, there will be people at the door to take him, no doubt. “We’re continuing to work every day with him and there is still room for improvement, but when he gives performances like that, he has got to make people stand up and take note.”

However, any potential January move is now in doubt due to his latest setback.
