Jarell Quansah has opened up about his former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah. The England international left the Reds for Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth up to £35m after struggling for game time under Slot.

The 22-year-old began the 2024/25 season as a starter alongside Virgil van Dijk against Ipswich Town but was substituted at half-time, with Ibrahima Konate regaining his place. Quansah went on to make 25 appearances last term but only started 13 times, rarely in his preferred centre-back role until after Liverpool secured the Premier League title.

Salah caused a stir after the 3-3 draw with Leeds, claiming he had been “thrown under the bus” and that his relationship with Slot had broken down. He was subsequently left out of the squad for Liverpool’s Champions League win over Inter Milan, with his return for Saturday’s clash with Brighton uncertain.

Ahead of Leverkusen’s Champions League match against Newcastle, Quansah praised his former teammate but avoided commenting on Slot.

“I can only speak on when I was there and what I saw from Mo,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Mail. “A great role model, a great character around the dressing room who obviously had an unbelievable season and helped us win the trophy (Premier League). “From what I’ve seen, it’s nothing but positive. He’s helped me through tough times, he’s definitely done that.

“I can’t speak from the outside. I’m just sort of a Liverpool fan and looking like everyone else.” Asked about his relationship with Slot, he added: “It’s not about what it was last year and what was happening.

“I’m totally focused on what I’m doing now. I don’t need to speak about my relationships with other managers. It’s about what I’m doing here at Leverkusen now and the task at hand tomorrow is more important.”
