A viral post on X from @BigKnickEnergy_ reignited the rumor mill after it claimed that Giannis Antetokounmpo had purchased a home in New York, drawing more than 400K impressions within hours. The update quickly stirred speculation as fans continued to watch every move Antetokounmpo makes amid months of trade buzz linking him to the New York Knicks.

Some fans quickly jumped to the idea that the Greek Freak might be eyeing a move to New York, but the claim fell apart almost immediately. The attached screenshot showed a purchase date of Nov. 18, 2025, which made the “breaking” update old news and exposed the post as misleading once people took a closer look.

It turns out Antetokounmpo did make a purchase, but it happened more than a month ago. The Bucks star reportedly invested $14.1 million in a 28-unit residential property at 111 Clarkson Avenue in Brooklyn’s Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood. The eight-story building, completed in 2018, consists entirely of rent-regulated units and currently operates under a 421a tax-abatement program.

It serves as a real estate investment aimed at producing steady income rather than a place for him to live. The property simply becomes another piece of his growing investment portfolio.

Meanwhile, the trade chatter connecting Giannis to the Knicks was far more serious back in August. Antetokounmpo told at least one Bucks teammate that he viewed New York as his preferred landing spot, and Milwaukee even contacted the Knicks to see what type of offers they could put together for the former NBA champion. Nothing ever reached the finish line, but the level of engagement showed how close the sides were to exploring a real deal.
