It’s been said in hushed tones so far, but it’s time for the NBA world to accept one thing. The Oklahoma City Thunder are mounting a serious challenge for the all-time regular-season win record. Through their first 25 games, they’ve lost just once, and they’ve beaten most teams with ease.
The reigning champions are led by the reigning MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. And he’s making a case to win the award again this season. During their 49-point win against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, SGA put up 28 points in just 26 minutes. And that keeps another incredible streak going for him.

There was a lot of talk about scoring streaks recently after LeBron James ended his legendary 10-point scoring run. And with his latest performance, SGA has now extended his 20-point scoring streak to 96 games. That is an absurd run and shows exactly why he’s thought of as the league’s best player.

The Thunder appear unstoppable; their roster construction is without a doubt the best in the NBA. If the team continues to win at an absurd rate, nothing will stop Gilgeous-Alexander from winning the MVP award. And indeed, if they win another championship, that will put him in some different conversations altogether.
