Aston Villa have reportedly secured a signing ahead of the January transfer window as they battle it out for top spot in the Premier League
Aston Villa find themselves in 3rd position in the Premier League table after their first 15 fixtures. They are three points behind Arsenal at the summit and one off Manchester City in 2nd. Crystal Palace occupy the final position in the top four.
The Midlands outfit won 2-1 at home to the Gunners last time out. Matty Cash and Emi Buendia got their goals against Mikel Arteta’s side. They are back in action on Thursday evening with a clash against FC Basel in the Europa League before a league match against West Ham this weekend.
Aston Villa agree deal to sign Alysson, says Fabrizio Romano
Aston Villa have agreed a deal to land Alysson from Gremio ahead of the January transfer window, says reporter Fabrizio Romano. They appear to have beaten league rivals Liverpool in pursuit of the attacker’s signature this winter. According to BolaVip, the Reds had considered a swoop for the player ahead of next month but they may now need to start looking at alternative targets.
In this latest update, journalist Romano has posted on X: “Aston Villa agree deal to sign Alysson from Gremio, here we go! €10m initial fee plus €2m add-ons for 19 year old Brazilian winger to join the club in January. Alysson will undergo medical and sign at #AVFC by the end of December.”
Alysson, 19, has been on the books of Gremio for all his early career to date and rose up through their academy ranks. He was a regular for them at various different youth levels and after joining them back in 2018 and was handed his first professional deal in 2022. That contract has since been extended until 2029 but it appears he will be heading out the exit door soon for a new challenge in Europe.
Who is Alysson amid Aston Villa transfer update?
Alysson made his first-team debut for Gremio in July last year in a Brazilian Serie A clash against Juventude. He has since become a key member of the squad at Arena do Grêmio and they will be disappointed to lose him. However, the opportunity to move to the Premier League and to test himself in England will be too good to turn down.
The winger, who can play on either flank, has made 43 appearances to date and has chipped in with two goals and five assists. He will be a useful long-term addition for Aston Villa and someone who they will look to develop over the coming years. As with any acquisition from abroad, patience is likely to be required whilst he adapts to life in a new country.
It would be unrealistic for people to expect him to come in and tear it up straight away. Therefore, he will need time to settle in and find his feet at Villa Park. He will give Emery more depth in his attacking department and something different to call upon as they look to chase down the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City in the title race.
