Earlier this month, Corriere dello Sport reported Liverpool’s interest in Hajduk Split’s Branimir Mlacic.
The Italian outlet were confident that Inter Milan are also a strong contender for the young defender.
Reports in Croatia suggested something similar, insisting Liverpool have scouted the 18-year-old already. Now, the Reds have been dealt a decisive blow in their move for Mlacic.
TuttoSport report Inter’s deal for the teenager is pretty much done.
The newspaper claim both Liverpool and Marseille had been monitoring the talent. The Nerazzurri have been pursuing a deal since December and have now stepped up their move.
Cristian Chivu’s side met with the defender’s entourage in Milan. This has proved important in making a crucial breakthrough for a deal that should cost around €5m.
The transfer is expected to be finalised by January and it remains to be seen if Mlacic is loaned back to Hajduk Split. Inter have followed a similar process for Petar Sucic, who is now an established star.
In the summer, Liverpool beat Inter in the race for Giovanni Leoni. The battle for Mlacic is now going to have a different outcome.
