The midfielder is on loan at PNE from Premier League side Everton
Preston North End captain Ben Whiteman is crossing his fingers Harrison Armstrong stays for the full season.
It has been a hot topic of debate in recent weeks, after Everton boss David Moyes was asked about itin one of his press conferences. The Scot did not rule it out but suggested he would like Armstrong, if possible, to help his old club PNE push for the play-offs.
Since then, Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom has weighed in with his thoughts while Armstrong discussed the prospect last weekend, with great maturity. How about someone who has been playing directly by his side, in the North End midfield?
“Yeah, I think Harrison mentioned it again in his press conference, didn't he?” said Whiteman. “So, what's best for Harrison? Listen, I'm no manager, but Harrison's playing every week. He's loved by the fans. He's loved by the lads in there.
“Why wouldn't you want to stay? And he definitely does - we've had numerous chats about it. He definitely wants to stay. But again, it's taken out of his hands. Is he going to go and get the required game time at Everton this season?
“Not so sure. Can he go on and have a real impact for us this season at the back end? Certainly so. If I was looking at Harrison and managing Harrison, which I am not, I'd tell him to stay.”
