Leeds United and Liverpool played out a 3-3 draw at Elland Road last weekend. However, the ramifications of the clash are still making headlines.
Daniel Farke’s men scored an injury-time equaliser to damage Liverpool further in the 2025/26 Premier League season. However, the events on and off the pitch are still capturing everyone’s imagination.

Mo Salah grabbed the headlines at the end of the game at Elland Road when he launched an angry tirade towards Arne Slot and the club for keeping him on the bench.
The forward was left out of Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League win over Inter Milan. However, it is Jamie Carragher who grabbed more headlines for his rant towards Salah.
Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards again drag the events of the Leeds United game
Carragher launched a scathing attack on Salah for his post-match comments at Elland Road last weekend, and the former Liverpool defende is angry.
However, Richards understands why the forward is frustrated, given he is one of the greatest players in the club’s history, but is being ignored by Slot.
The former Manchester City defender feels the Liverpool manager could have easily brought on Salah against Leeds, which Carragher vehemently disagreed with.
He laid out the match and defended the Dutchman’s decision to keep Salah on the bench. However, Richards stressed that the Egyptian cannot be treated as any other player, given his achievements at Anfield.
“I would have put him on against Leeds United when they needed another goal”, Richards said on CBS Sports.
“Leeds were in the game, putting pressure, and at times, they could have been exposed on the counter-attack. We know Mo Salah and his record in the previous years, and he could get you a goal.”
“Stop stop stop”, Carragher interjected.
“We were 2-0 up, and Leeds came back to 2-2, and the ball was in play for about three minutes before Liverpool scored to make it 3-2.
“That’s the only time you can criticise Arne Slot for not putting him on.
“There was a three-minute window between 2-2 and 3-2. You are not going to bring Mo Salah in when Liverpool were in front because he is not going to defend set-pieces, and he is not going to run back for you.”
“There is more to just defending set-pieces. Mo Salah is a player who is not getting on the pitch now, it’s ridiculous”, Richards added.
“We are talking about Mo Salah, and not just any other player. We are talking about one of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League.”
Richards is right, Salah could have hurt Leeds
Leeds were more than happy to see Salah on the bench for the duration of the 90 minutes as they do not have fond memories of playing against the Liverpool forward.
Richards was right; if Salah was brought on against Leeds, he could have really damaged Leeds, given his astonishing record against the Whites.
The 33-year-old has a brilliant record against Leeds, scoring nine goals in six Premier League appearances. It’s a frightening record for a player against one club.
Leeds made the most out of the feud between Slot and Salah, and were handed a big advantage when he didn’t even come on from the bench.
