Strength in numbers: How 12 different goalscorers are powering Barcelona’s attack

Barcelona last season were renowned as one of Europe’s most potent offensive sides, especially with Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal inflicting devastating damage on opponents.

A long list of injuries has not allowed the team to hit the same gear this season, but it would be wrong to say that they are less dangerous than last season.

After all, the Catalans have already scored a staggering 61 goals in just 22 games and thus average close to three goals per game.

12 different goalscorers

Furthermore, Barcelona have 12 different players who have all contributed to the scoring in differing capacities – a number that shows the diversity in options and the attacking firepower.

Barcelona have played 16 games in La Liga so far this season and have 47 goals to show in that duration. Real Madrid, who have largely been led by Kylian Mbappe alone, are 15 goals behind on 32 goals with as many games played.

Ferran Torres is Barcelona’s leading goalscorer in La Liga with 11 goals and is closely followed by Robert Lewandowski, who has eight to his name.

Lamine Yamal has scored six times, while Raphinha, Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez have four each.

Marcus Rashford, Pedri and Ronald Araujo each add two goals in the league so far, while Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde and Roony Bardghji have all scored one each, giving Barcelona 12 different goal scorers.

The UCL equation

Barcelona’s goalscoring in Europe has not been as freely flowing, and they have produced 14 goals after six games, averaging just over two goals per game.

In that competition, Marcus Rashford leads the team’s scoring charts with four goals while Fermin Lopez has three to his name. Kounde, Yamal and Torres have all scored two each.

Yet, the fact of the matter remains that the UCL has seen the team endure far closer games with more goalscoring chances missed. Moreover, teams including PSG, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and others far exceed the Catalans’ goal tally.
