Former Derby County winger Kaide Gordon has confirmed he is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines because of a knee injury.

The Liverpool prospect has suffered a torn meniscus which looks to have ruined his hopes of a January loan move.

Confirming the news on his Instagram account, the 21-year-old said: "So disappointed to say I have torn my meniscus and will be out for some time.

"Worst news I could have got and this one will hurt for a while but I will be back."

Gordon's injury is a bitter blow for the 21-year-old who has worked hard to come back from a long-term injury related to his growth that ruled him out for the entire 2022-23 campaign.

After 17 months on the sidelines, Gordon eventually returned and spent time on loan at Norwich City and Portsmouth last season.

He had pushed hard to be a part of Liverpool's first-team squad and was recently on the bench for the Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace.

In the summer, Gordon was linked with a move back to Derby, the club he served for seven years in their academy before breaking into the first team.

Former Rams boss Wayne Rooney gave him his big break in a 4-0 win over Birmingham in 2020.

He then moved to Liverpool for a fee that was reported to be £1m rising to £3m if various clauses were met.

Gordon made his Reds bow in a 3-0 win over Norwich City in the Carabao Cup and scored his first goal in an FA Cup win over Shrewsbury.

After his debut, then Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said: "He’s good.

"A lot of things to improve, a lot of things to settle, a lot of things to learn, but there are a lot of things already there.

"We are really happy to have him around, and we will treat him carefully.

"He is a big talent."
